Benefits of Tilt and Turn Windows

What are tilt and turn windows?

Tilt and turn windows are a type of European-style window that offer two distinct ways of opening – the top can tilt inward for secure ventilation, or the entire window can swing open inwards from the side like a casement, allowing for full access. They are a popular choice for modern and heritage UK homes because they provide excellent flexibility, ventilation, and security.

We specialise in advanced tilt and turn systems. Below is a helpful guide highlighting their key benefits, features, and practical applications.

How tilt and turn windows work

Turn the handle once to engage the secure Tilt Mode. The window opens slightly inwards at the top, allowing for continuous airflow while the multi-point locking system remains fully engaged. Perfect for night ventilation and upper-floor security.

Turn the handle again for Turn Mode. The sash swings fully open inwards like a door, allowing you to clean the entire exterior glass pane safely from inside your home. No ladders needed—ideal for apartments and multi-storey buildings.

Why we recommend tilt and turn windows

Safety & Cleaning

They are the perfect choice for flats, high-rise buildings, and upper-floor bedrooms. You can operate the window entirely from inside—the tilt mode provides secure airflow 24/7, and the turn mode allows you to safely clean the exterior glass without stepping onto a ladder or leaning out.

Security & privacy for basements, ground floors, and bathrooms

The secure tilt-in ventilation is fantastic for basements, garages, and ground-floor rooms where a fully open window could be a security risk. In bathrooms, the top-opening tilt directs rising steam outwards while providing ventilation without wide, visible openings.
